In 2013, following a 60 year history as the local Presbyterian Church in Fox Glacier, the former Douglas Memorial Church was purchased by Wanaka based AJ Thompson and Roz Davenport who have a deep love of the West Coast and its wild surroundings.
Immediately struck by the striking character and potential of the building, they embarked on an 18 month restoration and conversion project to create a unique, one of a kind residence in Fox Glacier for their own use.
As a result of the intense interest in the building and their project to bring it back to life, they are now making it available for holiday rental for others to enjoy in addition to themselves.

Having spent time in Europe in 2012 and 2013 racing long distance triathlon (including the World Championships as a NZ age group representative) AJ was able to source the complete internal fit out from Spain, which resulted in a highly contemporary feel in contrast to the definitive West Coast native rimu and riverstone features in the original building.
The result is a truly unique, beautiful building which provides anyone who stays there with a highly memorable experience.

Summary: We loved our stay at The Church. Perfect location, great modern decor, lovingly restored. Appreciated the coffee pods and wine. Thank you!! Super cosy once we were tucked up inside. Everything you need is there. Would definitely stay again.
