Positive: This was my first road trip spanning multiple countries in Europe, which meant a lot of apprehension to find the right hotel to stay in. La Montanina was the perfect mix of a budget friendly rustic hotel in the cute little mountain village of Malosco, Italy, and being within a day trip driving distance from Lake Como, Lake Garda and Venice in Italy, St. Moritz in Switzerland, and Innsbruck in Austria. This is a 70 year old property managed by Stefano Marini, who has worked here for the past 17 years. He, along with the rest of the staff, were incredibly helpful and hospitable during my stay over there. The entire property is very well maintained and clean with excellent insulation to make sure the rooms and common areas are cozy even in the bone chilling -12°c winter weather. I am definitely going to book this property again the next time I plan a trip in that part of the world.

Negative: Couple of things as an FYI for the hotel to look into: - The WiFi did not work at all during my stay because of the weak signal in my room. - The access code to the hotel entrance should be shared during check-in to make sure guests have it handy in case they arrive after the reception closes at 11.30 at night. Stefano was kind enough to pickup my call post midnight to open the hotel main door on New Year's Eve, but that was an avoidable situation per my understanding.
